Affiliate membership & application


As a condition of affiliate membership in The Ohio Society of CPAs, individuals must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Agree to abide by The Ohio Society’s Bylaws and Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Any public practice unit or firm in Ohio with a member or affiliate of The Ohio Society is required to participate in the AICPA/Ohio Society Peer Review program or in the AICPA division of firms.
  • Work and/or reside in the state of Ohio

Affiliate membership categories

Prospective CPA Membership:

  • Exam Qualified AffiliatesIndividuals who have successfully completed all parts of the CPA exam but have not yet received a CPA certificate
  • CPA Candidate Affiliates―Individuals who have sat or plan to sit within the next 12 months for the CPA exam
  • Student AffiliateFull-time students attending a university or college in Ohio who have an interest in accounting

Non-CPA Membership:
Individuals applying for the Accounting Professional, Non Accounting Professional and Firm Administrator Affiliate categories below must be sponsored by a current member of The Ohio Society and meet at least two of the following requirements. Firm Administrator Affiliates must also be sponsored by the firm’s managing partner. There are no sponsorship requirements for the Non-CPA Educator Affiliate.

  • Accounting Professional Affiliates―Individuals who are actively involved in a role supporting CPAs in exercising their professional responsibilities
    • Completed at least a four-year course of study or its equivalent and possess a Baccalaureate degree
    • Has significant responsibility for financial reporting, tax consulting or preparation, or other professional services while working under the direction of a CPA
    • Occupies a position of significant/primary financial reporting responsibility within an organization
    • Works for a CPA firm or in an organization’s accounting/finance department in a professional or paraprofessional position

  • Non Accounting Professional Affiliate―Individuals actively involved in a role supporting CPAs in exercising their professional responsibilities, or in providing consulting services typically provided by CPAs
    • Completed at least a four-year course of study or its equivalent and possess a Baccalaureate degree
    • Has significant responsibility for non financial professional services such as consulting services, while working under the direction of a CPA
    • Occupies a position of significant/primary financial reporting responsibility within an organization
    • Works for a CPA firm or in an organization’s accounting/finance department in a professional or paraprofessional position

  • Firm Administrator Affiliate―Individuals employed by a CPA firm in this capacity.

  • Non-CPA Educator Affiliate―Full-time educator in Ohio who is engaged in the teaching of accounting subjects. Educators who possess a CPA certificate or are in the process of obtaining a certificate are not eligible for this status.
