OSCPA celebrates record-breaking Accounting for Kids Day

The ninth annual Accounting for Kids® Day was a record-breaking success!  More than 1,500 volunteers reached nearly 14,000 fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade students in 570 classrooms statewide  on Nov. 12, marking the annual event as OSCPA’s largest community outreach program. 

Ohio students learned real world saving and investing principles, a valuable lesson that has become more important during the recession. 
Repeat volunteer, Charlotte Blaney, CPA, initially participated in the program because she hoped to positively impact school children.  “I have continued my involvement because it is a lot of fun, and the fourth-graders really get into the game while learning,” she said. “Volunteering for Accounting for Kids Day is also a great way to give back to schools.”

While spending just a couple of hours as teachers in elementary classrooms, volunteers teach skills that will help kids grow into smart consumers and future business leaders. 

OSCPA thanks everyone who contributed to this year’s Accounting for Kids Day program – not only the volunteers but those “holding down the fort” so their office could send volunteers.
