(COLUMBUS, June 16, 2009) – While the economy is showing signs of turning the corner, businesses and individuals are likely to feel the effects from the recession well into 2010. Many businesses had to scale down their professional workforce yet still need accounting professionals to handle the day-to-day finances and provide longer-term strategic counsel to re-tool growth plans.

To help employers manage within tighter human resources budgets, The Ohio Society of CPAs (OSCPA) has launched a free Per Diem Job Board available to any organization needing the services of a CPA. The board connects CPAs who are available for contract assignments with businesses that need accounting services or strategic business counsel for a limited assignment.

Businesses seeking the services of a CPA can visit the OSCPA Web site and click on the link for the Per Diem Job Board to search for CPAs with qualifications that match the company’s needs.

Employers can search by city for CPAs who have experience in a particular practice area, such as corporate, public accounting, government or non-profit, and select specific options including  corporate tax, accounting, budgeting or financial planning to find CPAs with exact skill sets for the assignment.

The search will return the name and contact info for CPAs who are registered with the Per Diem Job Board, along with a brief professional bio and preferred contract rates. All rates are determined by individual CPAs, not by any recommendations or guidelines from the OSCPA.

“There are many highly qualified and experienced CPAs who are in transition as a result of the recession and just as many businesses that need their financial skills, but may not be able to hire a full time CPA,” said J. Clarke Price, CAE, OSCPA President and CEO. “The Per Diem job board is a great solution that connects business with CPAs who are immediately available for contract work.”

The Per Diem Job Board is part of OSCPA’s effort to help its 23,000 members, CPAs in Ohio’s top businesses and public accounting firms, navigate the recession for their organization and assist clients in financial recovery.

Other resources include an online Financial Crisis News Center which provides the latest national and state news from the CPAs’ perspective, an expanded online Career Center where the Per Diem board is hosted, and an ongoing schedule on educational events that covers economic related issues.

“Ohio CPAs know firsthand how the economy has affected businesses across our state,” Price said. “The Per Diem Job Board is a great solution that helps those who need work connect with business owners who can benefit from good strategic planning during this tough time.”

The Ohio Society of CPAs, established in 1908, represents more than 23,000 CPAs in business, education, government and public accounting. OSCPA members not only meet statutory and regulatory requirements as CPAs, but also embrace the highest standards of professional and ethical performance. This is achieved through ongoing professional education, comprehensive quality review and compliance with a strict Code of Professional Conduct.
