Dayton Accounting Show to blend continuing education with resources for navigating recession

(COLUMBUS, May 7, 2009) - The Ohio Society of CPAs will kick off the first of four regional 2009 accounting shows May 19.

The Dayton Accounting Show includes more than 60 continuing education sessions for CPAs in public accounting, business and not-for-profit organizations.

But it also includes a focus on helping CPAs remain competitive during these difficult economic times. As part of a commitment to help members navigate the recession, OSCPA has added events that teach CPAs how to enhance their career tool kit.

These include free career counseling sessions, primers in using social media for expanding a corporate or personal brand, and a networking reception that will include a TweetUp.

A Tweetup is both an actual and virtual event where people who already know how to use Twitter can teach those who don’t about the advantages of this popular online community.

OSCPA has developed a strong social media presence that both younger and older members tap with increasing frequency. It has groups on Facebook and LinkedIn, and Society staff blog and Twitter about the economy, the outlook for CPA careers and other topics of interest to members.

CPAs who have joined these networks are conversing with other CPAs in Ohio and across the country.

At The Dayton Accounting Show, members can attend a session on leveraging social networking for business, and connect with other CPAs on Twitter during the TweetUp (hashtag: #oasda09).

“Our members need continuing education, but they also benefit from opportunities to step outside of that traditional learning environment,” said Boyd Search, vice president, education and training. “Our goal is to give them resources for whatever might come their way on the job and in their careers.”

The Dayton Accounting Show will take place May 19 – 20, 2009 at Sinclair Community College. Attendance is open to CPAs and other financial and business professionals.

To learn more or register, visit the show web page or call 888.959.1212. Members and non OSCPA members welcomed.

The Ohio Society of CPAs, established in 1908, represents more than 23,000 CPAs in business, education, government and public accounting. OSCPA members not only meet statutory and regulatory requirements as CPAs, but also embrace the highest standards of professional and ethical performance. This is achieved through ongoing professional education, comprehensive quality review and compliance with a strict Code of Professional Conduct.
