Auditor Mary Taylor honored as one of Ohio’s Most Influential CPAs
(COLUMBUS, May 5, 2009) - The Ohio Society of CPAs has named Ohio Auditor of State Mary Taylor, CPA, of Green, as one of Ohio’s Most Influential CPAs.
The award recognizes CPAs who have had significant, positive influence on the growth and development of the CPA profession and The Ohio Society of CPAs.
To commemorate The Ohio Society’s 100th anniversary, members across Ohio nominated their peers for the award. A member-led selection committee chose the finalists which included Taylor and a handful of other CPAs in Ohio.
Taylor is the first CPA to serve as Ohio's Auditor of State. She previously served two terms in the Ohio House of Representatives where she served on the House Finance, Ways and Means, and Education Committees. Taylor began her career in 1990 with Deloitte and Touche.
Taylor is the 2008 recipient of the University of Akron’s Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Distinguished Business Alumni Award, which honors alumni for their achievements in business and significant contributions to their communities. She is one of three women appointed to represent the United States as a delegate to the 52nd session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, a commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council dedicated exclusively to gender equality and the advancement of women.
During Taylor's service in the state legislature, she received the Watchdog of the Treasury Award and the 2006 National Federation of Independent Business Guardian of Small Business Award.
When she worked in public accounting, Taylor volunteered for The Ohio Society’s Accounting for Kids® Day program and became an advocate for financial literally. Now, more than 100 volunteers from the Auditor of State’s eight regional office partner with member of The Ohio Society to present the program in elementary classes across the state.
Taylor is a former director of The Ohio Society’s former Akron Chapter and a member-at-large for the AICPA Council.
