How do webinars work?

Everything you wanted to know about webinars but were afraid to ask

If you can get to the Internet, you can participate in a webinar from The Ohio Society of CPAs. With a few clicks, you can get the information you want without leaving your desk. OSCPA webinars also offer convenient, cost-effective CPE targeted to your needs or interests.

GETTING STARTED

On Education page, click on Events Catalog to find and register for the webinars of interest to you:

    • Search on the topic that interests you.
    • Type “webinars” in the search bar for a list of upcoming webinars

Once you are registered, The Ohio Society will send you a confirmation via e-mail one to two business days before the call with the following:

    • Connection information
    • Outline documents
    • CPE reporting form

Be sure to save that e-mail – the link included is how you will join the webinar. The e-mail will also have a link to a reference guide of instructions on joining and participating in the webinar and a link to any presentation materials.

TIP: PRINTING POWERPOINT SLIDES AHEAD OF TIME CAN MAKE IT EASIER TO FOLLOW ALONG DURING THE DISCUSSION.

On the day of the webinar, open the e-mail and click on the link to the webinar. This will take you to a login screen, where you will need to type in your name and e-mail address.

TIP: MAKE SURE YOU LOGIN 5-10 MINUTES BEFORE THE WEBINAR IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN.

For the audio portion of the webinar, dial the access number included in the registration e-mail and enter the registration code.

Now you are participating in the webinar! You can have an unlimited number of staff members attend the presentation at no additional charge; however, you must be registered for the call to get CPE credit.

The webinar interface has several features that make it easy to participate in the presentation. The box allows you to type questions for the presenter. Under “view” you can change how your name and information is displayed to other participants. You can even enter your “mood” by specifying your level of engagement and enjoyment of the webinar. The lecturer can also poll the audience at any point during the presentation.

For CPE purposes, numbers will be given at the beginning, middle and end of the program. To receive CPE credit, enter the entire code in the prompt that will pop up at the end of the call. If you accidentally close the prompt, you can fill out the reporting form included in the e-mail.
