Meet the OSCPA Student Ambassadors!
 |
Choosing a major is a huge decision, one of many you’ll make as you begin your career. To help undecided students make a better informed decision, The Ohio Society offers the Student Ambassador program. |
Student Ambassadors are accounting majors in their junior, senior, fifth year or enrolled in a graduate-level accounting program. This year, 15 Ambassadors are spreading the word on 12 Ohio campuses to give students great information about an accounting career and generate excitement about the prospect of taking the next step and becoming a CPA.
The Ambassadors plan events on campus to reach undecided students and dispel misconceptions and negative stereotypes about accountants. They want students to understand that accountants don’t just sit behind a desk crunching numbers all day. Accountants are outgoing, dynamic individuals with strong analytical and communication skills who are trusted business advisers in corporations and industries, accounting firms, colleges and universities and government positions.
Check out what some of this year’s Student Ambassadors have to say:
“Accounting is the profession that gives the greatest insight into the business world – and provides the best opportunity for advancement. I’m excited to share my enthusiasm for the profession and let others know what accounting has to offer.”
- Curtis Farnsel, Bowling Green State University
“I love speaking to students about their futures. If I can help a student decide what they want to do then I know that I have made a difference. I enjoy accounting, and I want to show students that it can be a lot of fun.”
- Tabatha Green, Wright State University
“When I took my first accounting class, I really enjoyed the simple and yet complex rules. As I met more upperclassmen, I learned more about the field and the various possibilities within it. Despite the stereotypes from old movies, accountants have some of the best jobs across all industries. The major doesn’t tie you to a certain field.”
- Valbona Bushi, Case Western Reserve University
“I want to become a CPA because the CPA title is well-respected and is an important indicator of one’s accounting knowledge. Achieving the CPA status will also allow me to continue my family’s accounting heritage as I would be a fourth-generation CPA in the state of Ohio.”
- Ashly Bower, Bowling Green State University
“Accounting is the language of business. If you plan on achieving success in the business world, you should first understand how it works. Becoming a CPA is like having a golden ticket. No door is locked – the possibilities are endless.”
- Erika Carter, Youngstown State University
