Teachers: Sign up your class for Accounting for Kids Day
Accounting for Kids Day is an annual community service event sponsored by The Ohio Society of CPAs in partnership with Accounting for Kids Inc.® CPAs and other volunteers visit elementary school classrooms for a few hours to teach students the fundamental concepts of financial literacy through an interactive stock market game.
The program is designed to provide financial education for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students and encourage responsible financial habits that will continue in the future. This year, Accounting for Kids Day will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Register your class to participate!

Q: Is there a specific activity or agenda on Accounting for Kids Day?
A: Yes. The Ohio Society will provide volunteer teams with a stock market game to be played with your students. The game, called Portfolios, Jr., comes complete with a stock market simulation game board, play money, stock certificates and dice. Click here to view the game.

Q: Who will be visiting my classroom?
A: Local CPAs – members of The Ohio Society of CPAs. We encourage our members to recruit their colleagues to be part of the event, but we try to place at least one CPA in each classroom.

Q: How many volunteers will be in my classroom for the event?
A: Three to four volunteers are recommended for each classroom of 25 – 30 students.

Q: What is the length of the activity?
A: Approximately two to three hours the morning of the event. The hours will vary depending on your school’s schedule, but generally 9 a.m. – noon is a good range. Volunteers can accommodate a shorter time frame if necessary.

Q: How do I register my class?
A: Fill out the classroom registration form. Keep in mind that your participation is dependent upon volunteer availability in your area. The Ohio Society will contact you as soon as a volunteer team has been confirmed for your classroom.

Q: My class can’t participate on Nov. 12. Can I sign up for a different day?

Q: What is my responsibility in the classroom?
A: Teachers must remain in the classroom during the Accounting for Kids Day activities but your role is quite limited. The volunteers are the primary facilitators but they might need your help with crowd control.
