Operation CPA

What is Operation CPA?

The Ohio Society recognizes the sacrifice being made by Ohio reservists and Guard members, which is why we have partnered with the Ohio National Guard to offer Operation CPA, a volunteer-based program that matches CPAs with local military families in need of tax preparation assistance.

Thanks to the generosity of Ohio Society volunteers like you, more than 200 military families have received tax preparation assistance.

As a volunteer, what will I do?

Volunteers assist military personnel, or their spouse/ family member, with tax preparation and filing.

Servicemen and women are instructed to call the Society first so we can confirm that they are eligible for the program and collect their contact information. To be eligible, they have to be Ohio residents and currently (or about to be) deployed outside of the state.

Once we determine that they are eligible, we search our volunteer list for a local CPA. At that point, we contact a volunteer to let them know we have a referral and provide the service member’s contact information. Volunteers can take as many or as few referrals as they wish depending on their availability.

Do I qualify to participate?

Operation CPA volunteers should be competent in preparing tax returns. Information about specific military tax provisions will be provided to volunteers.

What is the time commitment of Operation CPA?

Volunteers must be able to prepare at least one pro-bono tax return between January and April.

How do I volunteer?
