Ohio Society of CPAs Special Purpose Task Forces

What is the role of Special Purpose Task Forces?

The Ohio Society of CPAs appoints special purpose task forces on an as-needed basis to respond to significant issues that impact the profession.

If your schedule doesn’t permit serving on a committee with regularly scheduled or full-day meetings, you can make a significant difference by giving as little as two hours in an area of specialized expertise. Many legislative, regulatory, or standards-setting requests for comment have very short response windows, and many Society members lack the resources to monitor all of these opportunities as they emerge. By participating on a special purpose task force you have the opportunity for your priorities to be heard as part of a recognized responding entity, and additionally assist in providing a voice for under-represented constituencies of the profession in the rule-making process. At the same time, participation allows you to increase your personal and professional network and tap into leadership opportunities.

As a Task Force member, what will I do?

Every task force has a different purpose. Volunteer expectations vary depending on which opportunities you accept and which meet your areas of expertise. Not every volunteer will be extended a volunteer opportunity in every year. Volunteers who accept task force assignments are typically asked to participate in approximately 2 conference calls, research the issues being discussed, and be prepared to share your insights in a collaborative environment.

Do I qualify to be a Special Purpose Task Force member?

Every member has specialized expertise in some aspect of the profession that is a valuable perspective to have represented. Each task force has a different set of qualifications for its members. In general to volunteer, you must be a member of The Ohio Society of CPAs. Invitations will be extended based upon the areas of interest and specialization elected.

What is the time commitment to be a member of a Special Purpose Task Force?

Time commitment will vary based on the assignment, and will be communicated with the invitation to serve. Volunteers are asked to attend all meetings and conference calls, review meeting materials, and consider and research issues presented at meetings.

Where do I go from here?

To volunteer to be part of a resource bank of interested members to whom task force invitations are extended based upon areas of interest and specialization, contact Joe Rosato at jrosato@ohio-cpa.com.
