(COLUMBUS, OH – April 18, 2008) – State Representative Carol-Ann Schindel, CPA,(R- Leroy Township) has been named The Ohio Society of CPAs’ 2008 Outstanding Legislator, the Society’s highest recognition for a member of the Ohio General Assembly. The award recognizes legislators who have taken leadership positions on issues of concern to CPAs and the business community.

Schindel is currently the only CPA in the Ohio General Assembly. She serves as vice-chair of the House Ways and Means Committee and is also a member of the House Economic Development and Environment Committee, Financial Institutions, Real Estate and Securities Committee and Health Committee.

She is a licensed and practicing certified public accountant with more than 20 years experience. As an owner of Kolita & Company, a professional service corporation, Schindel provides clients with counsel on complying with federal, state, county and municipal tax laws and regulations. This experience gives her a unique perspective as a legislator.

During her first term, Schindel sponsored House Bill 224, which eased the complexity burden for Ohio individual and business taxpayers filing municipal taxes, and House Bill 166, which created independence within the internal audit function of the Executive Branch.

“She understands the need for legislation that simplifies the process for Ohioans to file taxes at the state and local levels,” Ohio Society Chair James Haubrock, CPA, said. “She continues to be a leading voice for simplification and uniformity of Ohio’s tax codes in the Ohio House of Representatives, and a staunch advocate for the CPA profession.”

In addition to her role as a legislator, Schindel remains actively involved in accounting. She has been a member of The Ohio Society of CPAs for 24 years and also is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She was also active with the Tax Club of Greater Cleveland.
