The Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants is a professional association dedicated to advancing the accounting profession in Ohio. The Ohio Society represents the interests of its members―whether in corporate or industry practice, public practice, government or education―and supports members in fulfilling their responsibility to serve the public interest and maintain professional competence.

Founded in 1908, The Ohio Society has grown to become the fourth largest state CPA society in the nation, and today serves nearly 24,000 members across a broad and diverse spectrum of businesses and industries:

    • Corporate/Industry: 51%
    • Public Practice: 41%
    • Retired/Lifetime: 5%
    • Government: 2%
    • Education: 1%

Governed by a 17-member Executive Board, The Ohio Society of CPAs provides strong and effective leadership and advances the CPA profession through diligent work in six key areas:

Education: Fulfills the educational needs of all members through continuing professional education (CPE) courses and other programs. Members of The Ohio Society complete a required number of CPE credit hours as a condition of membership, in accordance with state law and the Accountancy Board of Ohio mandates. In addition, the Society actively encourages qualified individuals to enter the profession and promotes educational processes which develop these individuals.

Peer Review: Strengthens the profession's self-regulatory process, monitors professional performance and oversees professional standards by requiring member participation in CPE, peer review and other means of quality assurance.

Advocacy: Communicates to government, regulatory bodies and other organizations the profession's views on legislative and other business issues which have significant impact on the practice of accounting. The Society provides members with numerous opportunities to be involved in activities at local and state levels.

Image Building and Involvement: Promotes public awareness of and confidence in the integrity, independence, objectivity and competence of Ohio Society members and the services they provide. By encouraging member participation in public service programs to benefit our community, the Society enhances CPAs’ image and builds an understanding of the services that CPAs provide.

Member Services: Supports members and the profession by providing important resources and access to information, referrals, networks and affiliations.
Communications: Facilitates communication among members and provides news and information relevant to members.
