Advice from a pro―don’t procrastinate!

There has never been a greater demand for CPAs than there is today, and the CPA exam has never been easier. Yet there are fewer people taking the exam than in past years. Why? Simply put: PROCRASTINATION.

Because of the new computerized format, you can take the CPA exam when you want. Your boss doesn’t know whether you took it, and no one but you knows whether you passed. So human nature takes over, and when given a choice we naturally put things off.

Why should you care? There is only one good reason to endure the process of preparing for and taking the CPA exam: money. The sooner you pass, the sooner you will be in control of your income, your schedule and your life in general.

So fight the tendency to procrastinate. Plan your work and work your plan. Even though you don’t have a deadline for taking the exam, you need to have focus, attention and dedication. There is no reason why you can’t sit for all four parts at least once in six months – or at most one year. Get it over with and move on to bigger and better things!

Steve Martin is the President of MDS CPA Review and has been coaching CPA students through the CPA exam for over 20 years. Please visit www.mdscpareview.com for more information on the MDS CPA Review course.
