Young CPA Network to provide tools, resources for new professionals

The AICPA's Young CPA Network addresses the needs of and support for young professionals. This initiative was spearheaded by AICPA Chair Leslie Murphy to connect to and inspire the profession’s future leaders.

The demands placed on young professionals make it difficult for them to identify and access the resources of their professional associations. The Young CPA Network is designed to provide a place where young CPAs, 35 years of age or less, can go to find information and resources geared toward their needs.

The Network includes a monthly e-newsletter, The Edge, and a Web site where young CPAs can find tools and resources to help them to:

• Map out their skill development needs
• Get networking
• Work/life balance advice
• Knowledge about CPE options
• Find career development ideas
• Understand an overview of professional issues
• Find ways to get involved in the profession

Also featured is an online “Ask a CPA” question-and-answer service that allows young CPAs to ask a more experienced CPA career-related questions via e-mail.

In a recent survey of young CPAs, the AICPA found that 77% of respondents found value in having access to an anonymous service of this kind. CPA volunteers will be answering the questions and responding directly to the inquiries.
