Reminders for your firm's upcoming peer review
The following are a few reminders for your firm’s upcoming peer review:
- Your review will not be scheduled if you have any outstanding fees from the prior review.
- AICPA member firms may be assigned a due date that falls after the Accountancy Board of Ohio (ABO) renewal date, so please pay special attention to this when scheduling your review. Example: 12/31/06 is your AICPA due date and 10/31/06 is your firm’s registration renewal date with the Accountancy Board. You must have the review completed in time to submit your firm’s final acceptance letter to the Accountancy Board by 10/31/06 or you will jeopardize your firm’s license to practice. The Accountancy Board of Ohio no longer grants extensions!
- On an average, a review can take from six (6) - eight (8) months to complete, so please plan accordingly. You can decrease the time drastically, if you submit all required documents and respond to all reviewer and technical reviewer questions in a timely manner.
- Your reviewer must be approved by the Society’s peer review administrator before the review is conducted. You and your reviewer will receive a written confirmation. Please make sure your reviewer is aware of your ABO registration renewal due date.
- You will receive a Report Letter and Letter of Comments, if applicable after your review has been conducted. Please make sure to send a copy of the Letter of Response, if needed, or the signed acknowledgement letter, for a Report review, to the Society’s peer review department as soon as possible.
- In House reviews are scheduled on a pre-determined date. The managing partner must be available by phone during this time to answer any questions the reviewer may have. This is very important since the reviewers are on a set schedule and are only here one week per month. If you are not able to be contacted during this time, the peer review administrator will need to change your review type to a firm-on-firm and you will need to select your own reviewer. You will still be charged for the In House review.
- All extension requests for the review due date or change in the year-end date must be submitted in writing to the Society’s peer review department for consideration. Please submit the requests via e-mail to: peerreview@ohio-cpa.comor to the following address:
The Ohio Society of CPAs
Peer Review Department
535 Metro Place S
P.O. Box 1810
Dublin, OH, 43017-7810
- The peer review staff or committee will not grant any extensions beyond the ABO renewal deadline assigned to your firm.
- All System and Engagement reviews must be accepted by the Peer Review Acceptance Committee. Report reviews will be accepted by a Technical Reviewer, on the committee’s behalf, unless there are issues or follow-up requirements that must be considered by the committee.
- All reviews will be issued a final acceptance letter when the review is completed to the committee’s satisfaction. A copy of this letter must be included in your firm’s renewal packet for submission to the ABO. It is your responsibility to submit a copy of the final acceptance letter to the ABO by their deadline. They will not accept it from us.
- Your review may be accepted with additional follow-up requirements assigned by the committee. You must have all follow-up requirements completed before a final acceptance letter is issued for your review. The ABO will accept the follow-up letter as a temporary renewal, as long as, the review is completed by the committee assigned due date.
